Artificial intelligence is rapidly transforming workplace productivity, and Claude stands out as one of the most capable AI assistants available today. With its Microsoft 365 connector, Claude can securely access your organization’s SharePoint, OneDrive, Outlook, Teams, and Calendar — enabling powerful automation and intelligent workflows.
This guide walks you through the exact steps required to integrate Claude with Microsoft 365 Business using Microsoft Entra ID (Azure AD). Whether you’re an IT admin or a business owner, this tutorial ensures a smooth and secure setup.
Once connected, Claude can:
Search and summarize SharePoint documents
Read and analyze Outlook emails
Summarize Teams conversations
Create and update files in OneDrive
Manage calendar events
Draft and send emails
Automate workflows across Microsoft 365
This turns Claude into a powerful assistant for your entire organization.
Before starting, ensure the following:
You must be one of the following:
Global Administrator (recommended)
Cloud Application Administrator
Application Administrator
Without these roles, you cannot approve the Claude connector.
Claude only supports:
Work or School accounts (Microsoft 365 Business / Enterprise)
It does not support:
@outlook.com
@hotmail.com
@live.com
Any Claude plan works: Free, Pro, Max, Team, Enterprise.
This step is crucial because it registers the Claude app inside your Microsoft Entra tenant.
Log in to Claude
Go to Customize → Connectors
Select Microsoft 365
Click Connect
Sign in using your Microsoft 365 admin account
You will see a permission request screen
Click Grant consent on behalf of your organization
After this step, Claude will appear inside your Entra tenant as two applications:
M365 MCP Client for Claude
M365 MCP Server for Claude
Now that Claude is registered, you must approve its permissions.
Visit: https://entra.microsoft.com
Go to:
Identity → Applications → Enterprise Applications → All Applications
Search for:
M365 MCP Client for Claude
M365 MCP Server for Claude
Open each app → Go to Permissions → Click Grant admin consent.
This approves the Graph API permissions Claude needs to read and write data.
If you want Claude to:
Send emails
Create calendar events
Modify SharePoint files
Update OneDrive documents
Then you must enable Write Tools.
In Claude → Organization Settings → Connectors
Select Microsoft 365
Enable Write Tools
Admin must approve the additional permissions in Entra
This unlocks full automation capabilities.
Once admin consent is complete, users can connect easily:
Open Claude
Go to Customize → Connectors
Select Microsoft 365 → Connect
Sign in with their work account
Done — no admin approval required
